"So we have a winning combination of a stellar group of singers, an ensemble of period instruments, and a dance troupe providing living depiction of perhaps the most classic and universal of Biblical tales, the Christmas story. All in all, this event is highly recommended, a welcome release from the hectic pace life seems to take at this time of the year. Those seeking religious solace, fans of early music, families, and those interested in multi-media performance will each find something to treasure.” – Patrick Valentino, Classical Voice of New England, Inc
“I found it amazing to have the interplay of dance and music done so very well… Breathtaking...the clarity mixed with the passion is so beautiful, and unique... ensemble has done something remarkable: performed my music so that it is better than I could imagine it sounding, both in composition and in performance... The choreography is rich with meaning; it seems to search out and find, and express, joy, beauty, sorrow continuously; I am very moved by it, and to me the choreography of the Magnificat couldn’t be any finer…" - Patricia Van Ness, composer

Cappella Clausura, Boston's premiere early music choir, will dance you into lilac time and Mother's Day with our latest program, featuring more undiscovered and underperformed works by women. Come join us this May!
Friday, May 1, 2009 @ 7:30pm - Gordon Chapel, Old South Church, Boston

**SUNDAY**, May 10, 2009 @ 7:30 pm - Grace Episcopal Church, Salem, MA
In the late Renaissance and early baroque several women were at work making remarkable music: in Italy, Donna Sulpitia Cesis wrote several books of motets for eight parts; Donna Caterina Assandra was one of the first women of the early baroque to have an entire collection of music published; Donna Chiara Cozzolani, at forty years of age, published four spectacular editions of music; in France Margaret of Austria, a powerful woman who was regent of the Netherlands in the 15th century, wrote poetry and, in at least one case, her own music; in the 17th century Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre, extraordinarily gifted and renowned composer to the Sun King, wrote six sacred cantatas, three of which deal with heroic women of the Bible. Join Cappella Clausura for a delicious sampling of these amazing works by French and Italian women composers. As an additional treat, Helena Froehlich, of Creationdance will dance Esther and Susanne!
Cappella Clausura's 10 singers are joined by Catherine Liddell, theorbo, Barbara Englesberg, violin, Hendrik Broekman, harpsichord and organ, Mai-Lan Broekman, gamba and Alice Mroszczyk, gamba.

CREATIONDANCE is a sacred dance company, where dance and music create a form of reverence, experience and communication with life and each other. We create short pieces that are included in services or social events, as well as short to full length pieces for performances. Most of the pieces have a spiritual content, non-denominational; where dance can be experienced as a form of worship. Originally founded in France, Creationdance is currently in residence at the First Unitarian Society Newton, FUSN.
